Johnny Cash's "At San Quentin" is a live album that was recorded on February 24th, 1969, at the San Quentin State Prison in California. The album was released later that year on June 4th, 1969, and it has since become one of Cash's most beloved and iconic works.

The recording of the album was a historic event, as it was one of the first times a major recording artist had performed at a prison. Cash had previously recorded a live album at Folsom State Prison in 1968, which had been a commercial and critical success. The success of that album inspired Cash to perform at San Quentin.

The performance was recorded by Cash's longtime producer, Bob Johnston, and the resulting album captures the raw energy and emotion of the live performance. The album features a mix of Cash's biggest hits, as well as some lesser-known songs and covers, and it includes some classic moments of Cash bantering with the prisoners and prison officials.

The album was a commercial and critical success, reaching the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart, and earning a gold certification from the RIAA. The album was also nominated for a Grammy award in the Best Album Notes category.

"At San Quentin" is widely regarded as one of the greatest live albums of all time, and it has become an enduring classic of country music. It has also been credited with helping to humanize and raise awareness of the conditions of life in prison, and for its role in inspiring other musicians to perform for incarcerated audiences.
